Kia Ora Digital recently sponsored and took part in the Skyline Queenstown Charity Golf Classic, held at Queenstown Golf Club the last weekend in November.
Now in its 46th year, this annual tournament is a fantastic initiative run on home soil. This year’s classic raised funds for local charity Pivotal Point NZ.
Our Co-founder and Managing Director Dan Sim is an avid golfer, so didn’t need to be asked twice. Any excuse to get out on the green will do!
‘This tournament is always a highlight on my calendar,’ says Dan.
‘What a weekend! Kia Ora Digital was proud to be a sponsor this year, supporting an iconic event that brings so many people together in the heart of New Zealand’s adventure capital.
‘A huge thank you to everyone who made the event such a success. We’ll be back next year, and who knows, maybe we’ll get closer to that trophy!
‘Until then, here’s to building connections on and off the course!’
Kiwi-born and bred
At Kia Ora Digital, we are proud to be Kiwi born and bred, and after a huge year, it was good to get back to our roots!
‘As always, Queenstown delivered with its stunning views and vibrant community spirit,’ says Dan. ‘We loved seeing the energy and passion from all the players and organisers.
‘While we didn’t take home the win this year, the real victories came in the form of new friendships, valuable business connections, and the sheer joy of being part of such an incredible event. Sharing laughs, friendly competition, and moments we’ll always remember is what this tournament is all about.
The competition was extra special for Dan. ‘Playing alongside my dad as part of our yearly tradition made it even more special.’
Queenstown’s iconic Skyline Gondola
Skyline Queenstown has a long history of supporting local community initiatives in Queenstown, and the Charity Golf Classic is just one of them.
If you’ve ever been to Queenstown, you’ll instantly recognise Skyline as the iconic scenic gondola and event venue perched up on Bob’s Peak, 450 metres above town. It’s renowned as one of New Zealand’s most iconic adventure destinations.
As you glide uphill on the gondola (now in operation for over 50 years), you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Queenstown – from Coronet Peak to The Remarkables and across Lake Wakatipu to Cecil and Walter Peak. You can also take a chairlift across to the Luge Station and experience the thrill of riding a luge cart back down the hill.
Putting Our Skills to the Test
Dan says running a business is often like playing a game of golf.
‘Just like in golf, the more you practice in business, the better you get,’ he says.
You’ll often find Dan and Ben playing golf together on holiday, and past Christmas parties have also involved golf. We work hard and play hard, and the Charity Classic was a great way to put (or putt!) our skills to the test!
‘In both business and golf, success is built on consistency and strategy. Consistent practice and continuous improvement in both will always put you ahead of the competition.
‘Just as every swing in golf requires focus and precision, every decision in business demands careful consideration. A single powerful drive can set you up for success, but it’s the series of well-placed shots that ultimately lead to victory.
‘This couldn’t ring truer for me,’ says Dan. ‘I’ve been working hard to consistently hit my driver over 300 metres – a challenge I’ve struggled with for a while. But with some dedicated practice, I’m now smashing it well over 300 metres and enjoying my golf game more than ever.
‘Here’s to driving both business and golf to new heights! If you play golf and want a game, I am always keen for a hit.’ Get in touch and say Kia Ora today!
